Naloxone Training & Prairie Harm Reduction Site Tour - SASKATOON - SOLD OUT

The Curvy Club is proud to partner with Prairie Harm Reduction this month to train some of our members on how to administer naloxone.

What is naloxone?

Naloxone, sold under the brand name Narcan among others, is a medication used to reverse or reduce the effects of opioids. It is commonly used to counter decreased breathing in opioid overdose. Effects begin within two minutes when given intravenously, and within five minutes when injected into a muscle.

Why is naloxone training important?

Naloxone trainings are important for the general public because the more widely distributed this medication is, the fewer fatal opioid overdoses will occur; we know people will use it and save lives.

What is Prairie Harm Reduction?

Prairie Harm Reduction is a community based non-profit organization, in the heart of the inner city of Saskatoon.

Prairie Harm Reduction serves individuals who are at risk and affected by HIV and Hepatitis C by removing barriers to services and pursuing innovative and evidence-based outcomes. PHR provides members of the community a safe environment to drop-in with outreach support (Support Services and Family Support Programs). PHR also provides educational programs and resources on several topics including, but not limited to, HIV, HCV, Harm Reduction, service navigation and engaging with people who use drugs, and provides Naloxone training to anyone. In addition, PHR has Needle Patrollers who pick-up needles throughout Pleasant Hill, Riversdale, and Mayfair neighbourhoods.

In October 2019, Prairie Harm Reduction was proud to announce that Saskatchewan’s first Safe Consumption Site would open. The SCS provides a safe and judgment free environment for individuals to consume their substances. The PHR team continues to work tirelessly to ensure that the site remains open and available to those who need a safe place to go, all in absence of provincial funding.

This event includes training on how to properly administer noloxone, as well as a take home noloxone kit and a tour of the PHR Safe Consumption Site.

This is a FREE event to attend, however a minimum $10 cash donation upon arrival of the training is encouraged to help support the amazing efforts of PHR.
